Biscayne Bay Waterkeeper is thrilled to announce the addition of our newest board member, Phil Kushlan.

Phil is a Ph.D. student at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science and received a Maytag Fellowship to study coral resiliency under climate change conditions.

Phil grew up diving and fishing in Biscayne Bay and is passionate about protecting our waters. Kushlan graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Marine Science in 2008. In 2011, he received a Masters of Science from University of Miami’s Biology department. Phil recognizes the multitude of South Florida’s water quality and management issues ranging wastewater treatment and ecosystem protection to climate change. He believes that a comprehensive and holistic view of these issues is necessary in implementing lasting change.

“I believe that my experience and my passion for the waters of Biscayne Bay will be an asset to Biscayne Bay Waterkeeper as this organization grows and develops over the coming years.”

BBWK looks forward to working with Phil on our mission to protect, preserve and defend South Florida’s waters. Phil is also involved with Everglades conservation and serves as the Vice President on the board of Friends of the Everglades. He plans to defend his Ph.D. in 2017.
