For the second year in a row, Miami Waterkeeper and HSBC Bank have been brought together through a partnership with Waterkeeper Alliance to help fulfill the mission of keeping critical local waterways clean and protected. HSBC has had a long-standing commitment to the issue of water. On December 3, 2019, the HSBC branch in Miami joined forces with us and the City of Miami Parks and Recreation for a day of habitat restoration.

This restoration event was held at the north point of Virginia Key, an ongoing site for dune restoration and invasive species control. Throughout the morning, 12 HSBC employees volunteered to help restore the park and help with the creation of new park trails.

The maintenance of shared, public green spaces near coastal waters is important socially as much as ecologically, and we couldn’t do it without volunteers and partners like HSBC Bank. 26 volunteer hours were conducted and approximately 1,500 square feet of new trail was started by removing invasive species and mulching the understory.

We at Miami Waterkeeper are so thankful for the support of HSBC and their response to helping keep South Florida’s water swimmable, drinkable, and fishable for all!
