Join Miami Waterkeeper in welcoming our new Outreach Associate, Casey Dresbach! Casey joined our team in February 2020, and we’re very excited to be working with her!

Casey is a Miami native, born and raised in Aventura, FL. She is in her final semester of graduate school at University of Miami’s (UM) Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, working to achieve her M.P.S. in Marine Conservation. She recently completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Miami with a B.A. in Marine Affairs and a minor in Political Science. Throughout Casey’s academic career she was involved in grassroots and outreach efforts as Outreach Coordinator for UM’s Shark Research and Conservation Program and Student President of UM’s Hillel. In her senior year at the University, she worked closely with Kelly Cox at Miami Waterkeeper in completing a senior thesis in Brownfield Redevelopment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate which brownfield sites in Miami were most susceptible to sea-level rise and flooding impacts, cross-referencing these sites with socioeconomic data to determine community vulnerability to potential toxic contamination and compiling this information in a GIS database. The collaborative work helped Regional Planning Councils and other stakeholders secure a Brownfield Coalition Grant this past year. Casey’s efforts throughout her undergraduate career granted her the “Outstanding Marine Affairs Student,” in the Class of 2019.

Casey hopes to continue honoring her passion for marine conservation through citizen engagement to ensure swimmable, drinkable, fishable water for all.
