South Florida PBS hosted a roundtable to discuss the state of Biscayne Bay, the threats facing it, and how crucial are our collective efforts to save it.

Dr. Rachel Silverstein, Executive Director and Waterkeeper for Miami Waterkeeper, joined Irela Bagué, Miami-Dade’s first Chief Bay Officer, and Dr. Todd Crowl, Executive Director of FIU’s Institute of Environment, for the discussion hosted by Sandra Viktorova on September 21, 2021.

The Saving the Bay roundtable brought together these local experts to discuss how outreach efforts to the public can be improved and how our community can get involved in securing clean water for the future. While the bay is beautiful at first glance and supplies Miami-Dade with billions of dollars of economic activity, water quality has been declining at an alarming rate, creating fish kills and toxic algae blooms with increasing frequency.

We all depend on a healthy Biscayne Bay, no matter how far away you are from the water.
