The “Plastic-Free 305” program to reduce the use of single-use plastics in Miami-Dade County was passed by the Board of County Commissioners on Dec. 1!

Introduced by Commissioner Eileen Higgins and co-sponsored by Commissioner Raquel Regalado, the program will provide businesses with a voluntary certification designed and implemented by local nonprofit organizations. This program will benefit both human and environmental health through the reduction of single-use plastics.

In support of our friends at Debris Free Oceans, Miami Waterkeeper was pleased to connect advocates to their Commissioners to make their voices heard. Over 450 community members submitted letters in support of this resolution to recognize and support businesses that eliminate single-use plastics.
