Report Pollution to Miami Waterkeeper

Seeing pollution in South Florida’s waters can be alarming—but reporting it is one of the most powerful ways to protect public health and the environment.

Miami Waterkeeper uses community reports to help scientists investigate pollution, identify sources, and hold polluters accountable. Your report can trigger water quality testing, site visits, and enforcement action when clean water laws are violated.

Why reporting pollution matters

South Florida’s waterways—including Biscayne Bay, canals, rivers, and coastal waters—are highly connected. Pollution from sewage leaks, stormwater runoff, illegal dumping, or spills can spread quickly, threatening marine life, recreation, and human health. Many pollution incidents are first discovered by people who live, work, or recreate near the water. Community reports help catch problems early—before they become larger, more dangerous events.

What should you report?

You can use this form to report:

  • Sewage spills or strong sewage odors
  • Oily sheens, chemical smells, or discoloration in water
  • Fish kills or distressed wildlife
  • Illegal dumping or debris entering waterways
  • Overflowing storm drains or suspicious discharges
  • If something looks wrong, it’s worth reporting
What happens after you submit a report?

When you submit this form, your report is reviewed by Miami Waterkeeper’s team. Depending on the situation, we may:

  • Investigate the site or collect water samples
  • Coordinate with local or state agencies
  • Track repeat pollution problems
  • Use the information to support advocacy or legal action

Not every report leads to immediate enforcement—but every report strengthens the data needed to protect South Florida’s waters.

Who can submit a report?

Anyone. You don’t need to be a scientist or expert. Photos, videos, and location details are especially helpful, but even a brief description can make a difference. If this is an emergency or poses an immediate danger, contact local authorities first, then submit your report here. If you see injured wildlife, please call FWC: (888) 404-3922 or Pelican Harbor: (305) 751-9840. We’ll also log your report.
