Welcome to our new Program Intern, Maria Briz! Maria has always had a passion for conservation and environmental education so she is currently pursuing a Professional Science Master’s Degree in Environmental Policy and Management at Florida International University.

Maria was born in Ecuador and raised in Miami.  In 2015, Maria graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Art degree in Sustainability and the Environment and in Anthropology/Sociology as well as Undergraduate Certificates in Agroecology, Biodiversity/ Wildlife Conservation, and Spiritual Studies. Early as a student, she volunteered at Bimini Biological Field Station where she gained valuable field and research skills. As an undergraduate, she focused on sustainable farming and habitat restoration and creation. Her goal is to help our society understand environmental issues and educate people on sustainable practices.

Maria has joined our team for the summer to help expand the 1000 Eyes on the Water training program. Maria looks forward to interning with Miami Waterkeeper and is excited to gain hands-on experience with the team.
